The POWER of INTENTION

How long have you been wishing, dreaming and hoping for change in your life? Wishing and hoping for change are actually doubtful thoughts about the future. As time passes, we may wonder why we remain stuck, spinning our wheels in some situation that we wish had changed a long time ago.

 

Change that generates real transformation only happens when we get focused and clear about what we want, and how we want it. It’s our attitudes toward the effect that we desire, along with our actions that determine our success. Identifying a specific intention is a process of sorting through the thoughts, beliefs and patterns that prevent us from getting what we need to feel empowered, fulfilled, and at peace with the unfoldment of our lives.

 

Setting clear intentions for healing, happiness, and empowerment is how we live our lives on purpose. To clarify our intentions we must ask, “What is it that I want or need to feel whole?” “What is my attitude about it?”  “What is my motivation for the outcome?” The answers lie within. To be receptive to our inner wisdom, we must be willing to do some deep reflection and listen to what our spirits truly desire. 

 

As we engage in deep exploration, we can begin to see what is in our way. What prevents us from releasing old patterns and healing our wounds? How we can let go and create space for weaving our life tapestry intentionally? We need to be in alignment with our innate wisdom in order to fulfill our highest purpose and follow our deepest truth.

 

Most of daily life is about doing. We are busy doing chores, errands, working at jobs, and driving our cars. We are on schedules, and for most people those schedules do not include taking time for reflection, stillness or meditation. For our intentions to manifest into powerful transformation, we must tune in! Tuning in requires us to take time for ourselves to be still, to go inward and practice listening and being receptive.

 

The thoughts coming from our brains may want things like more money, a better relationship, and a fulfilling job, but these are only the objects of our desire, and not the essence or the energy that lifts us up out of despair, depression, and anxiety. We live in a society that makes demands on our energy. We have little experience with tuning into our intuition and our inner wisdom and guidance. We tend to resist our intuition and our inner knowing because it is so foreign to our way of life. We have learned to be goal oriented and competitive, so we tend to think, “I got this,” and we keep going. We can become so exhausted and disoriented from our happiness that we resort to hoping and wishing that our struggles will work out someday, so we continue to put up with them. The longer we avoid clearing the obstacles to our health and happiness, the more we prolong our suffering. What you resist-persists.

 

How do we re-wire our brains from a prolonged negativity bias that says, my life will never change, this runs in my family, or I can’t change because other people are depending on me? Patterns of survival can run in our families, our relationships, and the communities that we live in, attempting to protect us from our fears and suffering. But these patterns never get us what we truly desire and need in our lives. 

 

In order to create change in our lives we must change our perspective, which requires us to change our view. Taking time to go inward shifts our perspective from the external world, into the internal world of the higher Self. As we practice quieting our inner critic, we must be willing to let go of our burdens to create space for positive energy. Deep down, we all have innate goodness. If we have lost the thread to our higher Selves, then it is up to us to find it again.

 

Creating change in your life is about returning to balance in body, mind and spirit. To be healthy and happy, you must honor and respect your individual needs and desires. To know what those are, you must look beyond the thinking mind. We cannot think our way into being, but we can align with our inner wisdom and our heartfelt sense.

 

To be empowered to create and manage change in our lives requires that we consciously focus on clear intentions and actively REACH for what we want, and how we want it. The REACH is not about obtaining objects like, money, relationships or jobs. Rather, we REACH for the ways in which the tool of money could fulfill our health and happiness. We REACH for the relationship we desire and deserve, and we are grateful for our gifts and passions that can be shared with a partner and with the world.

 

When we REACH inward to connect and engage with the higher Self and our inner guidance, we are cultivating that relationship. The more we practice accessing our inner guidance and being receptive, the safer we feel and the more we can trust the information that we are receiving. In time, we build our capacity for this connection and develop a bond of love and acceptance. Our intentions for transformation become the pathways for co-creating with our spirits exactly what we want according to our highest good and the good of all concerned.

 

You can begin by taking some quiet time each day to reflect and be receptive to your inner guidance. Journal writing can help you to clarify your feelings and intentions for healing. The awareness practice of meditation and mindfulness is essential to developing your skills for quieting the mind, being receptive, and becoming aware of the present moment.

 

As you begin to ask yourself, “What is it that I wish to REACH for to create change in my life?” be willing to ask, “What is in my way and preventing me from having that change?” As we learn and practice letting go of old beliefs and patterns in the mind and body, we create space to weave in the colorful threads and beautiful patterns of life that we choose to embrace.

 

This process of intentionally weaving your life tapestry is how you create a meaningful life that is filled with clarity, fulfillment and purpose. Most people find that they need support to build their capacity to do this work on their own. It is important to work with an experienced and trained spiritual counselor, meditation teacher, spiritual life coach, or shamanic journey guide. You want your trained professional to support you to feel safe, to help you to find clarity, and to assist you in discovering your own empowerment. Supportive coaching is essential to work through any obstacles and old wounds so that you can generate the space to be able to heal on a deep level that will lead to your transformation. But keep in mind that no one can walk your journey for you. You must REACH for what you want and claim your gifts to create a meaningful and beautiful life tapestry and discover how to be free and empowered.

Usnea Cavernosa, is the species found in the Rocky Mountain spruce and fir forests. Old Man’s Beard is a common name for the Usnea lichen that hangs down from the tree branches in light green and gray beards. You can gently tug on the strands and the strand on the inside will stretch like a rubber band before breaking. Usnea is formed by the combination of algae and fungus that grow together in a symbiotic relationship, and their “lichen” it! Usnea has been used a medicine for thousands of years all around the world in the environments where it grows. It is a powerhouse of medicinal properties. It is well known as an herbal antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic, antioxidant, antiviral, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory, and has immune building and balancing properties. Usnea is energetically cooling and drying and can be used at the first signs of heat, inflammation, and infection. Usnea is a vulnerary herb (wound/tissue healing) which makes it a valuable ingredient for your medicine cabinet and first aid kit. Usnea contains usnic acid, which gives it antimicrobial, antifungal and antibiotic properties. The amazing gift is that its antifungal properties can prevent the growth of candida (yeast) ringworm, athlete's foot, skin issues and fungal imbalances in the gut, mouth, and vagina. while at the same time acts as a safe antibiotic for other conditions in the body. Fill a jar with usnea, and pack it down lightly then fill it with 95% grain alcohol and place in a dark cabinet for 1 month. Occasionally shake the jar up. · The acute dosage of usnea is usually 1-2 droppers (25-50 drops) every 3-4 hours. · For chronic and preventive conditions; use less, or have as one of the ingredients in a formula. 1-2 times a day.

Self-Help Bodywork: Relieving TMJ TMJ is tension and pain of the temporomandibular joint. This sliding hinge joint connects your jaw to your skull allowing you to chew and swallow. Many people suffer from muscle tension, triggered by stress, and are not able to relax these muscles. Clenching and grinding your teeth contracts the jaw muscles and can cause muscle spasms, tissue damage, headaches and ear aches and chronic pain. Some people do this in their sleep and are not aware it. If not addressed or corrected it can lead to more serious issues like the jaw becoming misaligned and immobile, causing facial pain, jaw pain, and severe headaches. Here are some things you can do to alleviate the symptoms of TMJ tension, clenching, jaw soreness or pain. Roll your shoulders back and down while paying attention to your posture in general. Keep your teeth slightly apart and be aware of your in and out breath. While you are working on a computer or reading, practice placing and holding the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This helps prevent building up tension in your jaw. Massage the jaw area with anti-inflammatory herbs like Arnica and CBD as an oil or salve. Hold these 5 Acupressure points to get relief. Hold the same point on each side of the head at the same time. Locate the point with firm pressure and then release some of the pressure once you are holding both sides of the head with equal pressure. Breath and hold for 2-4 minutes. Then go to the next set of points and do the same process until all 5 points have been held. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Use these Acupuncture Points along the jaw. ST7, Stomach 7. GB2, Gall Bladder 2. SJ17, San Jiao 17. ST6, Stomach 6. ST5, Stomach 5. If your TMJ continues to produce chronic pain you may want to consider physical therapy by contacting your health care provider.

Burdock, Arctium lappa. Asteraceae family. Burdock is a perennial plant with a delicious root that can be harvested in early spring or fall. In the Spring the energy is moving upward as the root becomes alive with new energy. In the Fall, it is best harvested just after the first frost, when the plants energy has gone down into the root. The long and slender roots grow deep into the Earth like large carrots. Burdock root is called Gobo in Japan and is known for its earthy-nutty flavor and is commonly added to stir fry vegetable dishes and soups. It can be roasted and dried for tea. The roots are very nutritive for the body as they contain vitamin C, calcium, biotin, magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc. All parts of the Burdock plant are edible, the root, stalk, leaf and seeds. The best time to harvest the stalk and leaf are in springtime when the plant is still tender. You can chop the leaves and stems and boil them for 15 minutes and then sautéed them with other vegetables. The leaves are large and heart shaped and can be used to wrap food in for cooking over a fire or grill. Using plant leaves for cooking is as old as time before pots and pans. The name Burdock is from the French word "bourre," meaning entangled wool or burr, and the German word "dock," meaning large leaves. Burr-dock. The seed pod (burrs) on burdock became the inspiration for the invention of Velcro. The energy of burdock root is described in Chinese Medicine, as cooling and soothing to the internal organ systems. It is supportive for people who have heated symptoms like, high blood pressure, heart problems, liver stagnation, ulcers, fever, and more yang/heat. Burdock root is wonderful for cleansing the body. Its diuretic properties stimulate the kidneys to move fluids. It is a blood purifier that helps to remove toxins from the body. Research has shown that Burdock root contains powerful antioxidants, including quercetin, luteolin, and phenolic acids. Antioxidants shield the body from cell-damaging free radicals. Burdock root is known to stimulate lymphatic drainage and to support bile production, helping the liver to flush away toxins and hepatic waste. As a detoxifying herb with anti-fungal and antibiotic properties, Burdock relieves skin problems like, acne, eczema, and wounds. Burdock Root contains inulin, a soluble prebiotic fiber that supports digestion and builds healthy gut bacteria. Inulin helps regulate inflammation and remove toxins from the body. Burdock Root is a mucilage herb that soothes and protects the gastric mucosa lining of the throat, stomach and intestines. Burdock root is a powerful plant ally! Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is in the daisy family and most people have had some encounter with the bright yellow flower since our childhood. Dandelion is one of the most nutritious and healing plants that we have available to us in abundance! Dandelion blooms just about everywhere in the springtime creating an abundant offering as food and medicine. You can use the whole plant! Roots, leaves, and flowers are all beneficial for nutrition and healing. You can eat the greens raw in salads, add them to soups and sauté them with other veggies. Dry dandelion leaves to make tea, extract it to make a tincture, make dandelion vinegar, wine and beer. Add it to skin healing salves. Dandelion is alkaline rich in minerals and vitamins that the body needs to be healthy and resilient. It is high in vitamin A and C that support a strong immune system and vitamin K which supports bone health. Dandelion is very high in potassium (more than your average banana) and high calcium and magnesium. Dandelion is an antioxidant herb containing beta-carotene that neutralizes free radical damage in the body and prevents cellular damage and oxidative stress. It is a builder, a beneficial tonic. Dandelions are best known as a diuretic causing the body to produce more urine to help remove excess liquid from the body, reduces inflammation and flushes the liver and the kidneys of toxins. It is high in electrolytes which helps the kidneys to filter toxins and improves blood flow. It is used in urinary track formulas along with Uva Ursi.
